Julie Verost

Julie has lived and worked as a carpenter on Martha's Vineyard since 2001. After graduating from Penn State University with a B.F.A. in Sculpture, carpentry suited her interests and abilities as it meant designing and creating in three dimensional form. She has loved making and building things since her earliest memory. In addition to carpentry, she has been enrolled in blacksmithing classes at The New England School of Metalwork since 2018.

Iain Macleod

When Iain was very young he played relentlessly with a toy tool box.  Plastic hammer; a little dull saw; a ruler.  According to those who remember him he wanted to be a carpenter when he grew up.  Years passed and the dream was forgotten until, while on break from Wesleyan University, he cleaned out his family garage and found the old tool box.  His early spark reignited.

As Iain’s first carpentry project he built an ancient Germanic lyre which he played in concert for his thesis.  After graduation Iain continued on his path learning to build, working with wood and other materials, understanding the elements of construction and also how the natural elements interact with our dwellings.  And still he loves good tools.

Iain is very happy living and working on Martha’s Vineyard and believes in the work that he and Julie do together.  “I love improving the way a person's home looks, feels and functions.  There is a relationship between a person and their space — when our homes feel good, we feel good.”
